Facebook Now Has a New Feature. It Is Called The "Disaster Notification"

Facebook has launched a quick and easy tool that will let users notify friends and family that they're safe during a natural disaster.

Safety Check pings users based on their current city or last known location. If users are in an area hit by some kind of crisis or natural disaster, Facebook will send an alert to their phone, asking them to confirm that they're safe. Other users can also tag their friends as safe (although it still needs confirmation from the person being tagged).

The software is based on a message board Facebook developed during the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, since many users were using Facebook to quickly notify everyone that they were safe. It will work for all phones that can access Facebook, even on some of the more basic phones currently being used in developing countries.

It's a very cool tool for everyone, especially for mothers on Facebook who consider not hearing from you for 12 hours a natural disaster. LOL.
