Imo secondary school students harasses and brutalizes female teacher with machetes

One Mrs. Mary-Ann Oguezuonu, a female teacher who works at Obosima Secondary Technical School in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, is currently in the hospital as doctors battle to save her life. 

She was brutalized by some male students of the school. According to the story going round, the teacher who is a nursing mother was attacked by the irate students with machetes.

The trouble began when the teacher scolded a female student who changed her school uniform into a skimpy outfit. The teacher was said to have told the girl she would be sent packing if she ever wore such an outfit to the school.

Ann-Oguezuonu was said to be correcting the JSS 2 student when a male student said to be in SS1 suddenly ran into the class and confronted the teacher on why she was ‘embarrassing’ the female student.

A student who witnessed the whole incident told the press, “The male student, who was not satisfied with the verbal insults he heaped on the teacher, went further to grab Mrs. Oguezuonu’s blouse.”

Other teachers in the school who were said to have been attracted by the noise, stormed the class and dragged the male student to the staff room where he was flogged. He was then said to have gone to mobilize some other students who are said to be cultists, stormed the staff room while Mrs. Ann-Oguezuonu was still cuddling her five-month old baby and started attacking her with machetes and cutlasses.

A teacher who was in the staff room when the attack took place said, “While still cuddling her five-month old baby in the staff room, the irate male student mobilized others, suspected to be fellow cult members. They came into the staff room, armed with cutlasses and attacked the teacher.”

Confirming the attack on the teacher, one of her relatives, Mr. Francis Moore, said the incident had been reported to the police.

“The matter has been reported to the police and some arrests have been made, but the main suspect, Chimaobi Precious Agu, is still at large at the time of this telephone interview.”
