Chopsticks speared through a schoolboy's throat after he fell over while eating noodles (Photo)

Jun Chia is a 12 year old lad who had nipped out of school to buy a takeaway snack and was rushing back to his classroom while eating before it gets cold.

On his way, he was knocked by a classmate's parent on an electric scooter in the playground, he fell over and the chopsticks lodged into his neck.

Staff at the school, in the city of Wuhan in central China's Hubei Province, called an ambulance and the boy was rushed to hospital.

Miraculously, the x-ray revealed that the chopsticks had caused absolutely no damage to any key organs.

Medic Zhou Jen told local media: "We did a CT scan which revealed that the chopsticks had missed the boy's trachea and oesophagus and key blood vessels.

"He was really very lucky, and we were then able to use surgery to remove the chopsticks."

He added that because the chopsticks were not wooden but were made of steel there was also little risk of any complications from infection.

The boy, who was still under observation. is expected to be released back home by the end of the week.
